Edward Charles Mountague

(Later Montague)

 

Edward was Born 14th October 1925 at 50 Townholme Crescent, Hanwell, Middx, England to Edward Alexander & Susan Mary Mountague. He was the first of Two Children. He Died 26th November 1997.

The other was Brian Patrick who was Born 10th October 1936 at 12 Green Lane, Hanwell, Middx, England & Died 7th February 1993 Aged 56.

He went to school at St.Joseph's in Hanwell until the age of 14 when he left. He is listed as top of his class.

The Firms he worked before Joining the Navy were:-

Abbot Laboratories for 2 Years as a Packer.

Sainsbury's for 1 Year as a Grocery Salesman.

G.A.Dunn  for 3 Years as a Salesman.

 

Below is brief History of his life in the Armed Forces.

Joined Royal Navy May 1944 served on the H.M.S Duke as part of his Training.

Transferred to the Army on August 1944.

Training was from Sept 1944 to May 1945.

Shipped to Berlin  in 1945.

Discharged from the Army January 1948 & placed on the Reserve list.

Rejoined the Regular Army March 1950 at Acton Recruiting Centre in the Army Catering Corps.

Qualified Cook

August 1950 to August 1953 Farelf, Singapore.

Discharged March 1954.

Enlisted again July 1954 at Acton Recruiting Centre into the Royal Army Pay Corps.

Changed his Surname to Montague 1958.

Arrived Bombay July 1958 Bombay. Posted British Ghurkha Camp.

Got Married 9th July 1960 to Arlene Vera Vallally.

Stayed until October 1960.

From October 1960 to July 1961 Farelf, Singapore.

Based in Hounslow when Birth of Daughter in November 1963.

From 4th July 1961 to 19th November 1968 Home

Retired from Army 19th November 1968. while in the 36 Engineers Regiment.

Acting Steward 1944 on H.M.S. Victory.

Private from 1950 to 1952 then made up to an Acting Corporal.

Back as a Private in 1953.

Acting Sergeant August 1954.

Full Sergeant 1960.

Acting Staff Sergeant 1967.

Chief Clerk 1968.

Defence Medal 1946 with II Hussars.
